Launch of the video “From the Sea to Your Table” at the Baja California Sur Regional Festival for Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture.
At the 2024 Baja California Sur Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture Festival, SmartFish AC premiered the video From the Sea to Your Table. The video explores the journey of seafood from the Islote de Agua Verde Cooperative to exclusive tables in Baja California Sur’s tourism corridor, such as the Farallón Restaurant at the Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos and DÛM Restaurant in Todos Santos, facilitated by commercial partners like Nueve Palmas. It highlights the collaborative effort of all those involved, from the fishing community to restaurants committed to sustainable products.
The cooperative plays an active role in promoting the sustainability of its resources through initiatives like establishing and monitoring a fish refugia and participating in a Fishery Improvement Project (FIP), supported by SmartFish AC and other organizations including Niparajá AC, Pronatura México AC, and The Nature Conservancy Mexico.
As part of this process, the cooperative has adopted key practices to ensure the quality and traceability of their seafood. This collaborative effort has not only delivered sustainable seafood to some of the region’s finest restaurants and hotels but has also inspired other artisanal fishers to adopt a model that benefits both their communities and the environment.
